As far as ski trail lighting goes, you might want to explore the use of small, short post lights instead of regular poles. Post lights tend to attract people (youth) that like to throw rocks for target pratice.
The Nordic Ski Club of Central Minnesota has installed this inexpensive system at their Graystone Trails and the Rochester Active Sports Club from Rochester, Minnesota is in the process of installing these lights at the Eastwood Golfcourse trails. The beauty of these lights is that they can be removed in the summer quite easily to enable summer sports and to prevent excessive vandalism. The Eastwood trails are on a golf course and the use of this system made it much easier to sell to the owners and to the city. I'm not attached to lighting but would love a decent, well-maintained trail, maybe at Olin. > From: "Pure Sweet Honey Farms" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2002 16:33:38 -0600 > To: "Joseph King" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, "xc" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Re: [XC] increased XC usage fees > > I'd like us to think in terms of other services for skiers beyond grooming. > Those could be say, the development of another lighted facility on the east > side, improved access to the shelter, proceeding with trail expansion at > Elver or additional plantings of protective plants.
