Title: RE: [XC] mobile alerts

along those line Joe, i am proposing we drop the Madnorski hotline 233-MADK

it's a pain in the ass for me to do, nobody ever calls with condition reports and the same information is available on the Internet

I know not everybody has Internet access -- one reason i will fight against only sending out the newsletter electronically -- but the hotline seems outdated

if someone else is willing to take over, that's possible

but the club is paying roughly $200 a year to keep that line operating, money that would be better spent on the Mike Ivey racing support fund

Is the ski race on?  Has it been canceled?  Where is it going to be?

Every season we have a few days when these decisions happen at the last
minute.  If you're interested in getting a text message sent to your mobile
phone on days like this, reply to this message.  The main goal of this
message is to determine interest but if you are quick, we might also run a
test.

1. Are you interested in getting race notices sent to your phone?

If yes,

2. What mobile phone company provides your service?

3. If possible, do you want to get today's test message?

The test message will go out today to US Cellular customers as soon as Ned
gives us his update.  Other providers will be attempted depending on the
response I get.

Cheers,

Joe
