I was speaking more towards adding drivers to a stateless image, for
example an updated tg3 nic driver.
You can of course just unpack the initrd, manually add the .ko file
in, and repack it, however I was wondering if there is a better
supported way to have xcat automate this piece.

What is the proper "xcat-supported" way of adding extra kernel
modules
into a stateless Linux image? I have found some fairly old
docs stating
to copy them to /opt/xcat/share/xcat/netboot/$OS, list them in
the
genimage "-n" option, and xcat will pick it up and copy it
into the
image/initrd for you, but I have been unsuccessful in getting
that to
work with my 2.6 setup.
