Sounds like a perl module did not get loaded correctly. What version of xCAT are you running: lsxcatd -a
If xcatd is responding to other commands (lsdef, etc.), try stopping and restarting the xcatd daemon, and see if any errors show up in your syslog. Not sure exactly how this is done on zvm.
