The trouble is, its only the HP SL250s having this error message. We can
still rinstall HP DL165s, and Dell nodes, regardless of converting to
osimage or not.
For this node, I already did convert provmethod to osimage. Now I just want
to reboot it, I don't want to set it to netboot or re-provision it. Should
just the rpower command work for that? I just tried this command, but
still have the issue:
[root@master xCAT_plugin]# rpower node1903 boot
node1903: Error: Invalid role
node1903: Error: Invalid role
node1903: Error: Insufficient resources to create new session (wait for
existing sessions to timeout)
node1903: Error: Insufficient resources to create new session (wait for
existing sessions to timeout)
node1903: Error: Insufficient resources to create new session (wait for
existing sessions to timeout)
node1903: Error: Invalid role
[root@master xCAT_plugin]# lsdef -t osimage SL-x86_64-install-compute
Object name: SL-x86_64-install-compute
imagetype=linux
osarch=x86_64
osname=Linux
osvers=SL
profile=compute
provmethod=install
Still I wonder if part of my problem might be I have provmethod=install for
the profile/groups that contain my nodes, yet for the few nodes I'm
testing, its changed to the osimage name. I'm a bit confused about this
part of the "convert to osimage" instructions:
*Note:* for diskful nodes, you might not want to run nodeset to avoid
re-provisioning when the diskful nodes are rebooted. If this is the case,
run chdef to set the node's provmethod attribute to the osimage name. Then,
when you are ready to re-provision the node you can use the short 'nodeset
<noderange> osimage' command to provision this image.
We do have diskful nodes, yes I want to avoid re-provisioning when they're
rebooted. I get that I shouldn't issue the nodeset command until ready to
re-provision a node. Do I understand correctly: the 'nodeset <noderange>
osimage' command will make the node re-provision, as you say, it gets run
by the new rinstall command. So if I don't want to make us have to keep
track of which nodes haven't been reprovisioned since converting, shouldn't
I just be able to convert all the provmethods, then have everyone use
either one of these ways?:
nodeset node1903 osimage=SL-x86_64-install-compute
rsetboot node1903 net
rpower node1903 boot
or this:
rinstall node1903 -O SL-x86_64-install-compute
