Hi,

The Flarm radar functionality pushes me to possibly change the way I provide GPS data to the device I use XCSoar with.

I am using XCSoar 6.1.alpha with an old iPaq 1950 (WM5, no internal GPS, no bluetooth), connected via COM1 to an external GPS antenna. According to the iPaq plug description <http://pinouts.ru/PDA/ipaq_22p_pinout.shtml>, only one serial input is available, which is presumably currently used by my antenna.

If I wish to use the Flarm radar function of XCSoar, I guess I need to get the appropriate data from the Flarm (an original device with RJ45 et RJ12 plugs at the back). This appropriate data is the sentence PFLAU according to the Flarm Dataport manual and available on both RJ45 and RJ12. Problem is RJ45 is not available because it is used to power the Flarm device, and the available RJ12 doesn't provide GPS "own" position.

My questions are:
- Can Flarm be used as a GPS position provider to XCSoar (sentences GPRMC or GPGGA I guess), in place of current external GPS antenna?

Yes, I have exactly that setup in my glider.

- Does anyone ever tried to catch these data from the RJ45? (in order to get the appropriate pins: 5 - Flarm TX and 7 - GND), what kind of assembly did you use?

Yes, I connected these two/three pins to an D-SUB-9 connector in my panel and connected the PDA to that connector...

- Do you think the Flarm radar functionality requires more recent hardware (with regards to performance),

No, I guess your hardware should be fine for this...

- any simpler idea? (without changing my iPaq!)

Unfortunatly no, sorry...!

Thanks
Nice flights

Adrien
