That's all true, I have been using the iPaq 310 PNA myself (or 312, 314, 316, 
they're all the same hardware, only the car navi software they come with is 
different, who cares?) and it was reliable and fast enough. It boots into XCS 
from the SD as David mentioned, easy to hack. Only it does not have the 
transflective display. The display is pretty good, at high resolution compared 
to other non-transflective devices, still it is NOT transflective. I made some 
kind of foldable hood for it so the sun does not usually hit the screen 
directly. Last year I made a fiberglass case that can take a flarm, the GPS 
antenna, a voltage converter and the 310 with hood included, and attaches to 
the top of the instrument panel with only one cable to connect the whole setup 
to the glider's 12V supply. I have one left raw and unpainted, if anybody is 
interested.
