More seriously, I'm horrified at the thought of building a task while flying and, in view of recent USAian safety discussions, am very surprised that a CD should ever be allowed to change tasks once launching has started. The latest a task can be changed in the UK is during a re-brief at the front of the grid. Then there's 5-10 minutes grace time to enter the new task before launching starts. On the few occasions I've tried recreating a task after I fat-fingered and messed up the task position I thought I needed to reload and restart the current task and was surprised and dismayed at the time it took to reload the task from SD card and then to step forward into the appropriate leg. Entering all the turn points in the air would be *much* worse and IMO a total no-no in the usual competition gaggle before the gate opens. I personally would not be happy with anything more complex than tapping a single point on the screen to step round the turn points in the current task. This is implemented on LK8000 where you tap the top left corner where the next turnpoint is displayed. This one simple, sometimes repeated, action is surprisingly flexible. It can: - cancel an inadvertent start (repeated taps until the start point comes round again). I needed this yesterday[1]. - abandon a leg if the next turnpoint isn't reachable (single tap) - abandon the task (repeated taps until the finish point is shown) - select the last thermal (appended to the list, so repeated taps to select) - resume the task (repeated taps until the required next turnpoint is shown) - select a land-out field (closest available field is appended to the list, so repeated taps to select) [1] How come? My first leg was directly downwind. The start line was at the club house, at the upwind end of the field, and the winch was parked across wind from the club house. Consequently, the action of taking a launch, checking a cloud a km upwind, finding it wasn't working and then flying downwind alongside the field to a marked thermal fooled LK8000 into thinking I'd started. After I'd gotten to a suitable start height, I flew upwind to the next cu that was upwind of the field, topped up height a little, reset the task to the start point by tapping the spot to recycle back to the start point, and made my actual start.
