The RedBox has two extra cost options to add an SD card reader and to
add IGC logger capability.

If you add the SD card reader without the IGC logger option, you can use
the SD card for firmware and configuration updates. This can be
convenient if you don't own a Windows laptop or want to lug it to the
airfield to tweak the RedBox settings or update its firmware. The RedBox
will still output logs but they are not IGC certified. Some soaring
leagues, e.g. the BGA National Ladder, will accept them. They can also
be fed into the analysis tool on the FLARM site to see how good your
FLARM antenna placement is.

If you want to use RedBox logs to claim badges, etc. you also need the
IGC logger capability. This is just a firmware upgrade.

The SD card reader, like the its standard display, are separate from the
RedBox. They have fairly long flying leads so you can tuck the RedBox
itself away somewhere behind the panel and only need panel space for the
display (48 x 23 mm) and the SD card reader (40 x 5 mm). The flying
leads for these devices are about 520 mm long, so you should have no
problem placing the RedBox. FWIW, mine is installed in an H.201 Libelle.
I chose the RedBox and standard display due to limited panel space and
I'm using the dipole antenna rather than the default 80 mm rod and
ground plane.
