The OLC calculation is fine the way it is. The scalar "component wind" that Ramy is asking for is a really useful thing to have in flight, never mind whether it's "correct". If my glider has to make 80 kts TAS to achieve 60 kts GPS, that's useful info. Furthermore, if the apparent HW component increases while on a straight final glide (no updates to vector wind), that's *extremely* useful.
