Yesterday before my flight I had the Streak connected and charging in the
cockpit. I had no canopy cover on for about 1 hour before launch and it was
not a hot day at all. Right before launching I opened the canopy and saw an
error: "Battery error". The error was due to android stopping the battery
charging due to high temperature. Within a minute of opening the canopy the
error cleared and the charging resumed. This is unrelated to xcs
specifically. This is actually normal as the typical smartphone battery is
very temperature sensitive.
I think a few of us Streak owners are wondering how it will perform in high
ambient temperatures. Where I fly, it will get very hot in the summer, even
in the cockpit while flying. Yesterday was not hot at all, when I opened
the canopy nothing was very warm to the touch.
We can manage this on the ground pre-launch. What I am really hoping for is
that we won't get this error while flying in the summer and if we do get
it, that such error won't cause xcs to crash. Never had problems in-flight
with the IPAQ 39xx, but on the ground I always left it off charge and
shielded from the sun until launch time.
Any thoughts/comments/experiences?
David
