I appreciate the note that proprietary equipment manufacturers are providing
hardware to assist in XCSoar development.

I really love XCSoar and use it on every available opportunity. I fly club
aircraft so don't have a system as capable as XCSoar in many aircraft I fly.
So I use a $80 Chinese car GPS stand alone for navigation, final glide,
confirmation of sector etc. Final glides are fantastic and reliable. I rely
on the winter/B50 vario in the club aircraft and fly VFR.

I consider wind direction and speed as essential and XCSoar gives me that
reliably in thermal Xcountry mode.

Wind direction and speed is absolutely essential in the wave flying I do in
the Cooma region and I don't have a system that calculates other than doing
at least 3 turns.

I would be interested in options whereby I could easily and reliably get an
ASI input into my cheap Chinese GPS through the standard small USB
interface.

But keep up the good work on you open source software. Please.

PS Also, how do you force change from 'circling' screen other defined
screens 'cruise', Aux. And stop the screen from locking into 'final glide'.

Subject: [Xcsoar-user] Hardware donation from LXNAV

Hi,

last week, I have received a packet from LXNAV with a V7 vario and a Nano
logger, for free. That allows us to improve support for these products.
XCSoar 6.3.7 already has a few V7 specific fixes, and XCSoar 6.4 (first
alpha this week) will feature extended support for both V7 and Nano.

Quite a few vendors have already donated hardware to XCSoar
developers: Triadis, EW, IMI, K6 Team, LX Navigation, SoarTronic.
Sometimes, difficult interoperability problems can be solved quickly when a
developer has the device on his desk.

Every pilot can help by making hardware manufacturers aware that you care
for XCSoar interoperability. If they feel XCSoar is important for their
customers and their business, it's likely they will publish documentation
and donate test hardware, and we can solve your problems easily.

Max
