Thanks Dan - I really appreciate the full review. My *Garmin GPS 76CSX* has
the same type of reflective screen as *Streak 5* and I have used it for
several years with great success. Hopefully this sort of reflective screen
will become available on mobile devices of all types in the future. For
now, the reason I am moving to the Galaxy Note is a desire to get the rich
feature set in *XCSoar*.
I purchased an extended life battery from
http://www.mugen-power-batteries.com/mugen-power-5400mah-extended-battery-for-atandt-samsung-galaxy-note-sgh-i717-with-battery-door.html
Mugen Power which is 5400 mAh and it lets me run the GPS and Bluetooth for
several hours without killing the power. I ordered the one for the *AT&T*
Galaxy Note but have a *T-Mobile* Galaxy Note and it works just fine and the
back cover fits perfectly. Also for normal day to day use (not soaring) I
can go 2.5 days between charges! I love the big 5.3" screen and the phone /
mini tablet (aka phablet) flat out rocks.
While the screen on the Streak 5 may be a bit easier to read, the extended
battery for the Galaxy Note is a bonus as are the barometer and gyros in the
Galaxy Note which allow for enhance altitude readings, a true artificial
horizon, and enhanced compass performance.
That said, I will likely make a simple sun shade for the device and add the
anti-glare sheet. I'll try to remember to post a picture when/if I get
around to that project.
Thanks again for your input. But now I may have to look into getting a
Streak 5 with which to tinker too.
~grin~
