This is a patch meant to fix GPS signal on Android phones. This link in
particular is for the Galaxy S2 but it states the fix will work on any Qualcomm
chipset. It may be worth a try on the Streak.

Subject: Re: [Xcsoar-user] Dell Streak GPS issue
I've only experienced the GPS signal loss once, but it was frustrating,
admittedly only because of the lost IGC file. After that I borrowed a
Soartronic bluetooth adapter and tried it with the external data from my
PowerFlarm. So far that combination has worked flawlessly with about 20hrs of
flight time.
At least the combination of a Powerflarm, Soartronic BT (or IOIO board) and a
Streak is still less than any of the panel mount systems like a Clearnav.

This is my experience.
I have been using the Streak's internal GPS. With xcs version 6.4 I
noticed on multiple cases, mid-flight, the screen and infoboxes will
freeze while the touch screen is still responsive. So I could bring up the
menu, Quit and
restart. After a short while, it would happen again. Then XCS will say it is
now waiting
for a GPS fix. I quit again and start an app for checking the GPS
status. And indeed, the Streak is unable to get a fix. Weird. All this during
flight. And would stay that way for at least an hour, but also even until the
end of the flight.
So I got another brand new Streak from EBay, and the first time I
flew with it, same exact thing! During the flight I pulled out my first
Streak, started it and it was fine! So at the same time one is
working (the fresh but older one) while the other (the new) is unable
to get a fix for the remainder of the flight.
Up until now I had suspected that the on-board GPS of the Streak is a marginal
design. And XCS is not recognizing this particular anomalous situation
when it initially happens, so it freezes. I did notice from
the beginning that the time to get a fix with the Streak is unusually
long, so I
suspected the chip-set is not state-of the-art.
But after reading the comments here, it may be that it is a f/w issue on the
Streak. Don't know.
For the next season
my plan is to use my new PowerFlarm as the GPS source for the Streak
via BT. I still like the Streak a lot and would still recommend it, with
this caveat though. At least until we have reliable work-around.

Hi,
oddly enough, i've seen almost the opposite behavior - when i was
running the stock firmware the gps would seem to take a long time
(minutes?) to get a fix, while since i've flashed to 2.3.7 the gps
has been fine - it gets a cold fix in ~30 sec, and i haven't had any
trouble while running xcsoar (about 8 flights / 15 hours). In any
case, it does seem to be a software issue.
niv
p.s. i tried olleh, but it crashed constantly, so i tried 2.3.7
(following the link and instruction posted on this list a few months
ago) which has been mostly fine so far - i.e. i've seen some crashes,
but not with xcsoar (once i stopped leaving the streak uncovered in
the cockpit prior to flight)
