it works as you describe below. Tapping on the '*' enables a selection. So the
data are there. But I must say, that I do not prefer having not a single
waypoint in the list as it is confusing and leads the user to think that
something went wrong. Unless there is a clear software limitation to do so.
But I'm happy that I do not have to make my own waypoint file.

do you see the * in the name field? What happens when you click on it?
Usually if you have a waypoint file with just a few waypoints, the you see a
list of waypoints when you open the dialog. When there are much more waypoints,
e.g. because there are two files included, then the list is not shown. One
needs to click on the * in the name field and select the first letter. Then all
waypoint starting with this letter are shown.
