But the ejb-ref to jndi-name mapping still needs to be encoded in the
appserver specific deployment decriptor.
And you still need to use that ejb-ref within your (client) bean todo the
lookup.

All I'm suggesting is that it makes sense to generate some constants to
represent the ejb-refs/ejb-external-refs defined in the client bean. That
way the client bean can uses these constants and get compile time
validation.
