If OS cannot find proper driver for HDD controller it's impossible to
perform OS installation. OS installer will report "No hard disk on the box".
Anaconda (RedHat Installer) notify you directly at the time of RHEL,CentOS or
Fedora install what kind of driver has been loaded.SuSe behaves same way.
SNV (build < 56) was just impossible to install on the board with South Bridge
ICH(X)R (X=7,8) been set up in bios to AHCI (RAID) mode, which is native
mode for SATA drives (RAID based on several SATA drives correspondently).
Chipset (Intel965 + ICH8R) is often used to support Core2Duo CPUs (E6XXX)
