Yes, it is trivial, the ramifications to init and userland may not be, we should offer both deprecating the the ttyS hack.

If you want to be more complete for submission on xen-devel, you can
also rip out the xc_num and related initialization and mode logic
earlier in console.c.

Thats an excellent idea, both patches can be submitted to xen-devel and get the maintainers to weigh in.
I expect a merge of the two will be required.

Solve the real problem please; don't add hacks to work around hacks.

too late.. the hack is supported. sad but true :(
