download files/install in cp

I am installing Xerces for the first time on home system,  a Win2KP, and downloaded a Xerces-J-src.1.2.3.zip file. My question is: Did I need to download another file along with, like xerces.jar ? Do I simply put the compiled classes in my classpath? Not clear on installation. Any help much appreciated.   Thanks, Helena Edelson
