We have never claimed that the .docx files we generate can be opened by anything else than MS-Word. Therefore what you describe is not really an issue for us, XMLmind, nor for the vast majority of our customers. > *Our use case is to generate > the docx file using XmlMind, email it as an atatchment and the user > opens the attachment in their email. > > * > > *Observed Behavior: We see that IPAD complains “An error occurred while > reading the document” when the attachmen t is clicked to open. *Normal > Docx files open correctly following exact same steps on the same IPAD. We have already tested this and a .docx file generated by XMLmind XSL-FO Converter indeed cannot be opened by say, Gmail running in Safari or by iPad Mail. However the same .docx file can be opened by Gmail (internal preview by Google Docs) running in any browser of Windows. > > ** > > During our investigation we tried simples possible docx file with a > single line of text – One was created using your library. Please specify exactly which are these items. To our knowledge, there are no such items. Note that we use the ECMA-376 published standard to implement XMLmind XSL-FO Converter, not the Office Open XML standard Wiki. > > I could not find anythign on your site, which says if Docx output is not > supporte don IPad or if there are any settings in the code we could try > to fix this issue. > > We would appreciate your response and help in this case, as this is a > crticial issue for us. The .docx files we generate: [1] can be opened and edited in MS-Word. [2] to our knowledge, fully comply with the ECMA-376 standard. Having the same structure as MS-Word is not needed. Therefore, I would suggest to file a bug report to whatever application you use to open .docx on the iPad. This being said, we are pragmatic, that's why we'll probably add in the next release a couple of options which will allow to generate .docx files closer to those generated by MS-Word 2007 or MS-Word 2010. We'll do so as a workaround for poorly written .docx readers. However, we have no way to guarantee [1] that the .docx files generated by XMLmind XSL-FO Converter will fully replicate the structure of those generated by Word [2] you'll be able to open the .docx files we generate with any other program than MS-Word. Next release of XMLmind XSL-FO Converter is planned before the end of this year. If this issue is critical for you and you cannot wait several months for the next release, then your only[*] solution is to modify XMLmind XSL-FO Converter yourself. You have an fc-dev license, hence you have access to the full source code of the product and you have the rights to modify it (of course, without our help): http://www.xmlmind.com/foconverter/license_dev.html: --- 1.2 Modification Licensee may modify the Software for the purpose of integration, however such action frees Licensor from any further technical support to Licensee. --- We are really sorry but we cannot help you more than this. --- [*] You could also generate RTF rather than .docx. -- XMLmind FO Converter Support List [email protected] http://www.xmlmind.com/mailman/listinfo/xfc-support
