Hi, I'm running RedHat Linux 7.3 (the kernel is 2.4.18-18.7.x) on a Dell Latitude C840, which comes with the NVidia GeForce4 440 Go 128-bit, 4X AGP video chipset. I've experienced the following problem with the XFree86 X server and the nv driver both using the binary snapshot of 4.2.99.3 and a build of the CVS head (as of early this morning).
Though the X server starts fine and works well while you're using it, if the screen blanks, when you hit a key to wake it up, the display is painted incorrectly in that what should be at the top half of the screen is at the bottom, and vice-versa. However, the mouse pointer displays correctly. That is, if you have for example the GNOME panel at the bottom of your screen, after a screenblank, it'll be painted just above the middle of the screen, but the buttons will only be highlighted when you move the mouse all the way to the bottom of the screen. Running xrefresh does not correct the problem. However, switching to another virtual terminal and then coming back to vt07 does correct it. Also of note is that this problem does not occur when waking the machine up from a suspend - in that case, the display comes back properly. To repeat the problem, given a Dell Latitude C840 with version 4.2.99.3, ensure that screenblanking is enabled in the BIOS, start up X (logging in to a graphical session will do), wait for the screen to blank, then hit a key to wake it up. Following is the /var/log/XFree86.0.log produced by starting the X server (this particular one is from the server I built from this morning's CVS head).
