I think its already doing that - the generated XF86Config lists it
as using the ati driver:

VendorName "ATI Technologies Inc"
BoardName "Radeon R250 Lf [Radeon Mobility 9000]"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Though the last line of the log worries me a little:
