First of all, what is an ant? Sorry I'm new to this.
The version I used is the official release, the one in the zip file -
xml-xindice-1.0.zip
Then I simply went to "How-Tos" I tried compiling first xindice in win2k
then, I installed Tomcat. But the my compilation of xindice did not
produce any war files. Would you happen to know where i can read stuff for
installation about xindice or a step by step guide?

Thanks.
David

Which Xindice version are we talking about here.

for 1.1
Did you do and ant clean; ant release

If it's 1.1 then all you need xindice-1.1.war file to drop in the webapps
directory of your favorite servlet container.
