Hmm... Is this machine accessible from the net? I tried telnetting to mbuijtendijk.nl and the banner that came up was for a Kerio mail server...
The telnet window closing - the only reason I know of for that to happen is an invalid character in the input (something non-ASCII). Otherwise, you would typically only receive an error message from the server.
