You misinterpreted me.

It sounds better (and gives better fps) on slower games (eg. Pole Position,
Paperboy) etc.
with -notimer     *NOT* -timer.

This as I understand it is NOT as you expected.

TSC is the performance counter, linux uses it for the gettimeofday
systemcall, wich xmame uses for throttling.

That it sounds better with -timer is good, that's what is to be
expected. Are you experiencing this troubles with a specific game, or
with all games. If it is with a specific game I guess it are just a few
core changes. And if it's a specific game could you tell me which one.
