xmame.xgl performance (-noglaa switch *required*) is not fantastic. 320x240
games are fine, frameskipping starts at 640x480 and higher res games. The
RtCW demo got me excellent performance but some of the fog effects looked
wrong. The only other 3D app I've tried was ePSXe, a playstation emulator,
whose performance was *abysmal* -- ie, faster with the software-rendering
rather than the OpenGL plugin. I've also noticed a few artifacts when
playing movie clips (something to do with the Xv extension, perhaps), but 2D
is mostly fine. Hard to tell if it's just the CPU compensating for the
video performance though.
There appears to be a big upgrade to the Radeon DRI driver in the
works (TCL or transformation/clipping/lighting), though, so perhaps waiting
until some people can give you feedback on that would be a good idea.
