I find that xmame.x11 with DGA mode is the fastest xmame but mame32 is faster on my machine.
It used to be much slower and nothing I did made it any were near as fast as mame32. Recently I upgraded to Mandrake 9.0 and for some that really speeded it up. I suspect that my X server was not utilizing any hardware acceleration until I upgraded although I did check as was pretty sure that it was. I'll also > give advancemame a try. Thanx all for the tips. :) Well, I did some compiles last night for DGA and xv, but although it runs a tad faster, it's not as fast as I'd expected it to be. I've also closed KDE3 down (a real resource slurper if ever I saw one) to see if that helped, but it had little influence. I'll try some other compile options in the makefile to see if I can find the problem, and perhaps post a framespeed comparison between the different options.
