Not sure exactly what you are looking for, or what business reason has
caused your interest in implementing XML in your software for use with
transportation carriers, but let me provide some information.
I am chair of the X12 Transportation Subcommittee. Task Group 1 of the
subcommittee is responsible for XML. That task group will be reviewing
various XML DTD (Schema's) used today by transportation carriers at the next
meeting. Most major carriers have XML projects under way at this time.
At the last meeting we were to begin review of the work being completed by
RosettaNet in the area of transportation, but they were not ready for a
public review. Their work will most likely be on our agenda at the next
meeting as well. If there are other groups that would like us to look at
their work as well, please let me know.
As you are probably aware, there are no standard DTD's or Schema's within
the XML world at this time. Each industry group is off creating their own
"standard". Transportation is truly cross industry. It is our hope that
once ebXML completes its work, the Transportation Subcommittee will be able
to complete work on XML DTD's or Schema's that are truly cross industry. We
would hope that the various industry groups would adopt the work that will
be completed by the subcommittee, so that we will have one "standard" for
XML DTD's or Schema's for transportation.
In the meantime I would suggest that you continue to use the EDI standards
for the Transportation Industry. You will find that most carriers support
those standards which cover the transportation functions that you indicated
in your email.
