Sorry but there is a misunderstanding. XXE is not a DocBook editor. It just happens to be bundled with a usable configuration for DocBook. > * a lower priced student edition. Students like me cannot efford current > XXE prices. We already offer a free, non-crippled, Standard Edition with a free support to everyone. We cannot afford giving more than this. If you want to be offered a ``lifetime'' Professional Edition license, please consider localizing XXE to italian and putting your it.jar on the Web (that is, you don't have to interact with XMLmind in anyway to do this). See http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/translatexxe/index.html > * the default save dir should be $HOME and not $INSTALLDIR The default save directory is the directory of last opened/last saved document. If you have no last opened/last saved document yet(which, in practice, never happens), it defaults to $HOME. The default save directory, of course, happens to be $INSTALLDIR/demo/ after the first install of XXE on a computer. We do not intend to change this behavior. > * XXE should get the DPI value from X11/xdpyinfo XXE ``gets its DPI'' from the Java runtime. We are not supposed to even know what is X11 or xdpyinfo. See also http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/ar01s06s01.html#generalOptions and http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/ar01s06s01.html#styleOptions > * the search box in the Edit tab should search for tags that contains > the searched term, not just for tags that start with the search term. > A search for "table" should report "table" as the first result and > "informaltable" as the second result. Sorry but we'll not implement this. We already had hard times implementing the customary autocompletion (configurable, see http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/ar01s06s01.html#editOptions2) > * indentation with the tab character OK (this has already been requested: see http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/wish_list.html) > * auto open the tree view Already implemented in V3. In fact, you can automatically open a ``tab'' (MDI windows are gone) containing up to five views of the same document. A new structure (TOC-like) CSS style sheet has been developed for DocBook just to demo this new feature. Note that the tree view is almost never needed. Here at XMLmind, we all use XXE for all sorts of documents and I've never found one of my coworker using the tree view (well, except my coworker which develops tests for XMLmind FO Converter -- he needs to write XSL-FOs by hand). XXE is designed to be used with the styled view plus the node path tool and that's it. > * a description of each tag (this has already been requested) In fact, this has not already been requested. See answer below. For now, using "Help|Show Content Model" is not that bad (plus there's nothing to configure to make it work). > * desc + search = a very pleasant way to discover DocBook or avoid to > pick up the ref book if you forgot the difference between simplelist > and itemlist. No offense intended, but we are clearly not interested in being the best DocBook editor in the world. Our job is to ensure that if you really, really, want this feature you could add yourself. And with XXE V3, this is the case. In the very near future, you'll be able integrate a new tool of your own in the GUI of XXE. (May be we'll develop this new "DocBook Reference" pane ourselves just to show how easy it is to develop such tool and how easy it is to integrate it in XXE V3.)
