I don't know. (I suppose this is not a problem on modern machines.) Working on documents which are 200-300 pages long is so unpleasant, even with collapsible elements, that we never do this. > I know I should also consider modularizing, but I need to start this way > (and if I understand correctly the standard edition does not have good > support for modular docs?). I'm pleased to inform you that XXE V2.6, Standard and Professional Edition, will both have the *same* excellent support for modular documents: --- Next version of XXE V2.6: * Has a totally new, (easier, quicker and less error-prone) user interface for building modular documents: [1] Open the referenced document. [2] Select any element. For example, the root element, if you need to reference the whole document. [3] Use new command "Copy as Reference" (Shift-Ctrl+C). [4] Switch to the referencing document and select the place where you want to paste the copied reference. [5] Use ordinary commands "Paste" (Ctrl+V), "Paster After" (Ctrl+W) or "Paste Before" (Ctrl+U). Plus, if a document already contains a reference to an external document or element, it is possible to directly ``Copy as Reference/Paste'' it without having to switch to the referenced document. * The use of XIncludes will be allowed in free Standard Edition, in order to let users compose arbitrarily complex modular documents. * A new command called "include" (not bound to any keystroke or menu) can be used to automate the insertion of XIncludes (i.e. it can be used in macro-commands). XXE V2.6 will be released in a couple of weeks. ---
