I'm not sure to understand if you are talking about the Insertion Mark
or about the Mouse Cursor.

There is no problem with the *insertion mark* (red/black vertical bar
which blinks when the document view has the keyboard focus). If you need
to know where you are, simply look at the "Node Path Bar" at the top of
XXE window.

The problem is to know where to click. When I try to move the caret, do
I move it at the end of the <emphasis> or at the beginning of the #text
which follows it?

To improve this, we have already implemented 2 different *mouse cursors*
(I'm using XXE V2.5a1 - not released to the public).

Over the end of a text, the mouse cursor is shaped like this ']'.

Over the beginning and middle of a text, the mouse cursor is shaped like
this '|' (like in V2.4).

(We have experimented with 3 mouse cursors ']', '[' and '|' and we have
found that 2 are sufficient.)

What we have implemented seems to be at the same time, simple,
efficient, and easy to use.

We hope to be able to release XXE V2.5 in October. You'll see by yourself.
