My guess is that when you installed the JDK, you didn't check the "Install public JRE" option. In such case, xxe.exe cannot find a JRE in Windows registry. I'm saying that because we have retested xxe.exe on XP Pro SP2 and on Vista with the JRE 1.6.0_04 alone and also with the JDK 1.6.0_04 and its public JRE option and found no problem at all.
