Hm.  I do worry about less determinate behaviour, particularly if people
start blaming the graphics layer for being 'slow' when the issue is
input lag if your mouse doesn't report a middle button.  Could we just
default it to off, add a property if there's none already, and make sure
the toggle gets into GNOME/KDE control panels?
