Patch 1 seems to fix my issue on nvidia, so:

Patches 7-9 are really nice, but there should be a glsl130+instancing fallback with another vertex format + shaders.

Patch 10 also have to check for gl extensions. We could fall back to r8 textures, but the mi fallback also sounds fine, so:

But I get some broken renderings in xterm on nvidia because of the last patch. I guess it's because of the 0.5 offset.
