Setting up the proper virtual size then fixes the message and the display. Multiple questions arise: -Where do I get information about the available outputs from? Have not had any luck using the query or verbose options to xrandr. -Why does xrandr fail silently if it receives an invalid output as a parameter? -When can I get acceleration with rotation? ;-) Many thanks for the quick and substantial help!
