And where before you can run KDE, but also use some Gnome apps and plain X
apps, now you got to choose - one compositor has better teleconferencing
and the other has better magnification, and another better effects and so
on.
It seems to me like this makes a good case for compositor
standardization,
i.e. the compositor maintaners in the various desktop groups should
collaborate to come up with a uniform set of features, or perhaps work on
a "global" compositor to be used by all.
