I already submitted a patch to that effect. Presumably this problem arises because the fbdev doesn't know about this restriction, so doesn't set the virtual resolution of 832x600 that it needs to when asked for 800x600. The display actually works fine, so I suspect the register reference is overly pessimistic here.
