Mark,
I see a couple problems. The first ones are trivial, #4 seems to
be the real issue.
#1 You are running at 24 bit depth. This isn't a real problem, just
be aware that the i815 is not capable of running 3d and therefore
DRI at 24 bit depth. 16 bit depth is recommended unless you are only
using 2d.
#2 I think you have either no VideoRam option in your device section
of XF86Config, or it is set to 8192. Running with video at 24 bit
depth you'll probably want to use more ram. Set it to 16Megs to be
safe.
#3 The really odd thing is that the device seems to get initialized
twice. Note the "I810(0):" messages, they seem to repeat at the end
of the file. This is probably a symptom of something worse...
#4 XFree is having trouble with your busses. Look at this:
(II) Bus 3 prefetchable memory range:

Seems like the i815 is getting mapped to the same place as your
brooktree? Might be the bios' fault. Look at /proc/pci and see
if it really looks like they are mapped to the same memory range.
There is also this in your log:
(II) Bus -1: bridge is at (0:31:0), (0,-1,0), BCTRL: 0x08 (VGA_EN is set)
I don't know what Bus -1 means, perhaps someone with some knowledge
of the bus probing code can comment on what is happening here.
You might have some luck trying another slot for your brooktree.
Did you say you were plugging that card into a bus converter? Like
an ISA->PCI converter?

Attached is the XFree.0 log file from the problem machine. I am runnning
stock RedHat 7.2 with the included 4.1.0-3 X Server. The machine is a
CompactPCI computer board equipped with a Mobile PIII 733. I am using a bus
adaptor to allow me to plug in the PCI Brooktree board.
I should note that I had no trouble using "xvinfo" with the 815 until I
installed the brooktree board....
