Hi, I have an HP laptop that comes with the cyberblade XP video card and a 1400x1050 LCD display....And I have a few issues.
The primary one is that I can't get X to work with the trident driver....tried many times, Xfreee 3.x 4.1, 4.2 , many XF86Config-4 settings, modes, chipsets, and no luck...The closest I got to getting it to work was with XFree 4.1 using the CyberBaldeXP chipset (not XPm)...which gave me small narrow strips of X repeating accross my sceen...everything else just results in a dark screen with a few sharp narrrow lines going horizontally! After lots of tries and reading, I finally got some X funtionality using the VESA driver...(which I guess is like a framebuffer "fbdev")....However, I can't get the full pixels my monitor supports...I can only get 1200x1024. does anyone know of how to raise that to 1400x1050? Another side issue that I am running into is that I can only run X as ROOT! anytime a user without su privilages tries to startx, the gnome desktop launches, things load, but right before the desktop appears, it dies...I get a message Caguht Signal 4 in the X log files! (I installed Redhat 7.2)....I guess its somehting weird with the permissions...desktop items may not have read access? anyone run into this issue?
