Hello

I am running RedHat 7.1 Kernal 2.4.2-2 and XFree 4.0.3 on a Cyrix
GCT-MGXm mother board having CX5510 and Cx5520 chip sets.

I have working Cyrix MediaGX but only using XF86_SVGA which seems to
support only depth 8 at 640x480.
If I add Driver "cyrix" in my Device section I get the following error:

Config Error: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config:346
      Driver "cyrix"
       ^^^^^
Unknown section keyword
This is in contridiction to configuration info for cyrix to be found at
www.xfree86.org which is clear that cyrix is supported by XF86_SVGA !

An XFee86 -probeonly with Driver "cyrix" produces something which looks
promising (below).
The dump does not seem to contain any cosha looking I/O addresses or
memory buffer locations!
These are:
 Memory Range 00A0000-00AFFFF
                            00C0000-00C7FFF
 I/O 03B0-03BB
                            03C0-03DF
(these are reported by that other operating system 95 (working 1024x768
16bit) device manager resorces)
Starting XFee86 produces a graphics crash. All be it recoverable with
Ctrl Alt F1 followed by Ctrl C and shutdown now, when single user mode
is entered graphics is recovered.
I have tried many tweeks to XF86Config-4 to no avail.

Where do I go from here?

I am happy to have a go at debuging the beast, but I need some informed
assistance on how to approach the problem.
I am compitent programmer of many years, but no Linux except a few
trickey configurations, but determined and willing to learn.

Thanks in advance Charles Bradshaw

NB My XF86Config-4 contains only 640x480 modes. (on the assumption that
these are more likley to work)
