I'm having difficulties with an application that I am running under XFree86 4.2.0. The application requires an 8-bit colour depth and I am running X in this mode. However, on startup the application is unable to configure the colourmap and instead uses a private map.
I understand, from reading elsewhereon the Xpert list, that this problem is a result of the RENDER module grabbing the main map. I also understand that this issue has been fixed in the CVS version of XFree86, as mentioned in: http://www.xfree86.org/pipermail/xpert/2002-May/017789.html I recently applied the update to version 4.2.1 but this did not fix the problem. I'm just interested to confirm that this is correct --- the fix is not within the 4.2.1 update --- and it's not simply me doing something stupid? If this is the case, and I /know/ I probably shouldn't ask this, is there an estimate for a release of a stable version which does include the fix?
