Hello,

    BACKGROUND:

Under WindowsXP Professional, everything I describe works, therefore
it is technically possible and shoudl be able to work under X.

    PROBLEM:

I am trying to use Linux full time, but I am being stymied by the
fact that I cannot get the laptop to export the display to an external
monitor. This is problematic since I use an external monitor both at
home and the office. Under windows I simply puch fn+f5 and the videocard
will switch between, now I understand that this key combo may never work
under linux, but I would be happy getting just the functionality. I
tried the Option "Display" "BIOS" and Option "Display" "CRT" under the
device section of the XF86Config. "BIOS" did not work (what I mean is
the LCD was still used); CRT partially worked, it stopped using the LCD,
but never did show the screen on the monitor :-). I have no idea where
to turn next, so I am posting this message in the hopes that someone has
the answer or at least a tip on what to do next. If you need mor einfo
please feel free to ask, I really want to fix this!

    SPECIFICATIONS:
        HP Pavilion n5415
AMD Duron 900 MHz w/512 MB
Trident Cyberblade XP w/ 16 MB
WindowsXP / Redhat 8.0 (also ran Slackware 8.1)

Cheers and TIA,
Julian.
