I have 

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA G200 AGP (rev 01)

and I've never seen such a problem, with any XFree86 version I
tried (4.0, 4.1, 4.2). Only that with 4.2, Xv for "big" images
doesn't work, because drm allocates too much video RAM for
itself (see also my earlier message on this topic).

You might try the suggested workaround of setting Option
"TexturedVideo"; it seems to change some things for Xv.

Maybe there's also a difference between rev 01 and rev 03?
