After a restart I see my Emacsen and gkrellm launch fast, but the CPU keeps
working hard for minutes while I can see in Console's system.log for example:

        Nov 4 17:44:12 sumac org.macosforge.xquartz.startx[55533]: xrdb:
"Fig*edit_menu*highl/opt/X11/share/fonts: failed to write cache
        Nov 4 17:44:12 sumac org.macosforge.xquartz.startx[55533]: xrdb:
"Fig*edit_menu*highl/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts: failed to write cache

Upon next launch I first saw problems with DBUS, then those with
""Fig*edit_menu*highl" and finally

        Nov 4 17:51:58 sumac org.macosforge.xquartz.privileged_startx[57119]:
/System/Library/Fonts: failed to write cache
        Nov 4 17:52:10 sumac org.macosforge.xquartz.privileged_startx[57119]:
/Library/Fonts: failed to write cache
