My experience is that copying text is hit and miss, copying from some applications never work, Google Chrome is one of them. One workaround I use to get text from within the RDP session is to copy the text (if it's just a few words or a line) and paste it to a terminal window, mark the text in the terminal window, right click and choose "Copy". That usually makes the text available on the client side of the RDP session, sometimes I have to right click and paste, not mouse button. I use Debian and Gnome on both client and server.
