Hi Rog,

I had the same problem on 3 new installs of Xubuntu. I finally solved the problem on all 3 installs.

Simply add the the indicator plugin back into the panel! Mine have been running fine for the last couple of months-the indicator plugin seems to behave itself nicely and no more disappearing act.

I did an additional 2 fresh installs of 16.04 last week, and those installs never developed the disappearing act-go figure:>>

Enjoy.

The network manager icon continually disappears from Panel 1. In this instance, I'm using Xubuntu 14.04.5 - up-to-date.

I am able to make the icon reappear with (thanks to a long-lost post that I read somewhere):

    sudo nm-applet &

That is followed by the message

~# nm-applet-Message: using fallback from indicator to GtkStatusIcon

I'd like to stop this nuisance of the disappearing access to this important applet, but, how?
