Ian allow me to quote from your very own website: **Membership is by invitation only**, and consists of a number of representatives from various browser manufacturers. This group, which is referred to as the members, currently consists of: * Brendan Eich * David Baron * David Hyatt * Håkon Wium Lie * Ian Hickson * Johnny Stenback * Maciej Stachowiak Source: http://whatwg.org/charter > It's not a W3C alternative. It's just an informal > group coming up with > some proposals that can then be submitted to a > standards organisation > (such as W3C or IETF) for standardisation. (Other > examples of specs > developed in this matter are PNG and more recently > Atom.) Well, spin it as you like. The WHAT WG is a W3C alternative. It's not endorsed by the W3C. It's not using the W3C process and so on. Also as you note you keep your option open for future standardisation at W3C or IETF or ECMA or wherever you feel like you get the best reception. > Apple did not "launch" this group, it was launched > by Opera and Mozilla. Well, I understand that Apple doesn't want to endorse the WHAT WG. However, at least two founding members of the WHAT WG are full-time Apple employees (e.g. David Hyatt, Maciej Stachowiak?). Again, spin it as you like. Why not help out with the affiliation of the founding members: * Brendan Eich - Mozilla Foundation * David Baron - ?? * Håkon Wium Lie - Opera * Ian Hickson - Opera * Johnny Stenback - ?? > Microsoft is not excluded, they are as welcome as > anyone else. Indeed at > the recent workshop on Web Applications, Microsoft > were one of the few > groups that indicated interest in the work. Yeah, for sure. Isn't the point of the whole exercise to move the web forward even though Microsoft has frozen Internet Explorer and boycotts W3C standards such as XHTML, SVG, XForms and so on. Again, spin it as you like. - Gerald ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: GNOME Foundation Hackers Unite!
