  Ian allow me to quote from your very own website:

  **Membership is by invitation only**, and consists
of a number of representatives from various browser
manufacturers. This group, which is referred to as the
members, currently consists of:

    * Brendan Eich
    * David Baron
    * David Hyatt
    * Håkon Wium Lie
    * Ian Hickson
    * Johnny Stenback
    * Maciej Stachowiak

  Well, spin it as you like. The WHAT WG is a W3C
alternative. It's not endorsed by the W3C. It's not
using the W3C process and so on.

  Also as you note you keep your option open for
future standardisation at W3C or IETF or ECMA or
wherever you feel like you get the best reception.

  Well, I understand that Apple doesn't want to
endorse the WHAT WG. However, at least two founding
members of the WHAT WG are full-time Apple employees
(e.g. David Hyatt, Maciej Stachowiak?). Again, spin it
as you like.

  Why not help out with the affiliation of the
founding members:

    * Brendan Eich - Mozilla Foundation
    * David Baron     -  ??
    * Håkon Wium Lie - Opera
    * Ian Hickson     -  Opera
    * Johnny Stenback -  ??

  Yeah, for sure. Isn't the point of the whole
exercise to move the web forward even though Microsoft
has frozen Internet Explorer and boycotts W3C
standards such as XHTML, SVG, XForms and so on. Again,
spin it as you like.
