The group of people who have the final say (and who pay for the site) is
by invitaton only, sure. But anyone can contribute. Your "spin", as you
put it, made it sound like some closed group who would make things up in
private, whereas in fact it is open to anyone.

"alternative" means the choices are mutually exclusive. The goal of WHATWG
is specifically to prepare something for submission to a standards group.
Therefore by definition it isn't an "alternative". This isn't a matter of
spin, it's a matter of correct use of terminology.

But then we all know you have trouble with correct use of terminology!

Note that the W3C have a policy whereby their members are not allowed to
state that they wish to submit their work to the W3C. So even if we only
planned to do that, we couldn't say so, and would have to either be vague,
or claim to be leaving our options open.

I really am not sure what there is to "spin" here. I'm just trying to keep
your facts straight and accurate, since you have such a great difficulty
doing so yourself.
