As Martin pointed out...rely a bit on autodetect, Xrandr, and the Xorg.0.log (don't use xorg.conf initially).
Note: Make sure you have a good quality video cable and connectors in the right I/O ports. Bad cables and connectors can do odd things. The Viewsonic VX2025wm has a 1680x1050 resolution so WITHOUT a Xorg.conf file let Xorg's autodetection probe your monitor and then review the EDID information. If you run Xrandr it will give you the default resolutions. Your Hor/Vert settings in a xorg.conf are important if you use them... -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
