Basically, I answered 'yes' to this thread on the premise of the ATI Radeon 4850/4870 cards working - which includes the ATI Radeon 4870 X2 and the ATI FirePro 8700/5700/3750/3700 series of cards which use the ATI R700/RV770 based GPU.
All of the ATI Radeon R700/RV770-based cards worked as far as I've tested and reported to Sun's HCL. The highest resolution tested was at 1920x1200 on my test monitor. The maximum resolution of 2560x1600 "is possible" with very high-end monitors - though I haven't tested this with my current setup and the ati driver. ATI DRI 3D drivers are in the works for the previous cards (i.e. ATI R500/R600 GPUs). Later updates to Sun's XServer 1.5.1/Mesa 7.2 project will help fulfill that destiny. So, if you're just itching to get your shiny new ATI R700/Rv770-based graphics card working under OpenSolaris (or even Sun Solaris 10) then you can do so for the moment - and that's the news from me. ~ Ken Mays -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
